We loved Solvang! For years Mom and Dad have talked about Solvang and how they love it and now I know why. The town is so cute with Danish shops all over. It is a bright and cheery town with small cottage like buildings. It reminded us of Disneyland.
They have Christmas shops all year around, a Thomas Kinkade gallery, quilting stores, bakeries, windmills, a mission, candy shops and more. We went in many of them. Tanner was such a great traveler the whole time. It's easy to take a seven week old on a trip.
We stopped at Mortensen's Bakery for a cream cheese and raspberry danish and they were good! Jared's paternal grandmother's maiden name is Mortensen so we had to stop and take a picture.
Once we left Solvang we stopped for the night in San Simeon where we ate at a Mexican Restaurant. The town was very small! Not many options for dinner but we managed to find something decent. We went a little further down the coast that evening to see the Elephant Seals.
They were quite fascinating to watch. They make loud burping sounds and come on shore to molt which means shed their skin during the summer months. This process can take 3-4 weeks.
It was quite cold out there. We returned to the hotel and went in the spa and called it a night.
