President Kimball has said that beauty has the capacity to refine and ennoble the spirit. Beauty can also inspire and enrich us by lifting our spirits. In a recent conference address Elder Richard G. Scott encouraged creativity. He said, "Attempt to be creative for the joy it brings...Being creative will help you enjoy life. It engenders a spirit of gratitude. It develops latent talent, sharpens your capacity to reason, to act, and to find purose in life. It dispels loneliness and heartache. It gives a renewal, a spark of enthusiasm, and zest for life."

This morning Cathy Morgan taught Kay, Michelle Chipman and me how to make floral arrangements. Cathy Morgan is a woman in the Orange Stake who is a florist and she did the flowers for the Thornton wedding this weekend. She had some extras so she offered to show Kay how to make some arrangements. I thought that would be so neat to learn, so Kay invited me as well as Michelle. The information above is what she gave us on a handout. She went over all the tools and skills you need to make an arrangement. She is a professional so that was so nice of her to go step by step to help us learn how to make arrangements. A lot of times when people do something professionally they don't like to teach others, but she was so willing. A neat tip I learned was that you are supposed to put warm water in your flower vase because the warmth helps keep them alive and healthy. She said if you have a rose that is going limp, putting it in warm water will make it perk back up. The arrangement above was my creation. We all made such beautiful bouquets. It was so neat and easy. It is definitely something I could do all by myself.
