The last several days we have been putting Ethan to bed a little bit later due to activities we have been doing - saying bye to Brett before he left on his mission, family dinners, and so on. This means he has been going to bed around 7:45 to 8:15pm which is not much different from his normal bedtime. Luckily, he has been sleeping in as a result which he doesn't normally do, even if he goes to bed late. He has missed naps in the past and gone to bed later and still wakes up at 6am with out fail. The last week though he has slept in a little later, waking between 7am and 8:30am. The norm has been more like 7:15 am which is amazing for us. He wakes up happy, ready to play instead of his constant fussing until his morning nap. We have loved it, but it has not been all smiles when it comes to his naps! This has caused our whole day to be messed up which is not a good thing. He is not napping well. Most of the days he has still taken his two naps but only about 30 minutes at a time. Today he woke at 8am so I was only going to give him one nap. I kept him up until 1pm
and he woke from his nap at 2:04pm. That is not ok because he is tired and needs more sleep than that at his age. It is so nice to get more sleep in the morning but I don't think he is ready to nap once a day. When kids switch from two naps to one they usually sleep at least 2-3 hours in one block. Most kids at his age wake around 7:00-8am and still take 2-3 hour naps twice a day. He is just not a sleeper and has never really been good at it. I am going to put him down early this evening and see what happens tomorrow. We may have to wake at 6am to get the much needed naps in the day. His cousins Clayton and Jack (who are 5 years old and almost 3 years old) still take a nap for about 2.5 hours a day. Clayton doesn't do this every day but a few times a week. That just goes to show you that Ethan should be napping for a few more years. Ethan is 1 year old and is not even doing half of that at this current time. Hopefully we can get him on a good sleeping cycle.
